Summer 2015

Under the supervision of Steve Ulrich and Richard Derksen

Namikango Mission is a Christian organization serving in Thondwe, Malawi, Africa to teach and build up young men and women to be ministers of the church. Our team of architects and engineers was given the task to design a master plan for the campus including dwelling units for the administration, students, and conference goers. The proposed campus includes a library, a communal cafeteria, a conference centre, a new administrative building, three classroom builings, and dormitories. In addition to the official campus buildings, commercial buildings for vendors, a skills training facility, and a new church and prayer houses were designed as well.

Each of these buildings were designed so that the construction could be used with local materials. Brick, metal, and the African thatched roof were used often in local construction. Incorporating these elements into the design, the master plan and its individual buildings were designed to suit the needs of the people at Namikango Mission, providing them an economical yet beautifully designed campus.
